Explore the Amazon aboard the Uiara and observe 500+ bird species on sustainable expeditions. Expert guides and premium comfort in Brazil.
Uiara Birdwatching offers exclusive river expeditions that combine passion for ornithology with the comfort of premium infrastructure. Aboard the Ana Clara boat, specially adapted for high-quality ecotourism, you will live an immersive experience through the most diverse Amazon habitats, from crystalline streams to terra firme forests and flooded várzeas.
Each dawn in the Amazon brings a unique symphony of songs and colors. In the early hours of the day, when the forest awakens, rare species like the Cock-of-the-rock display their vibrant plumages in mating rituals that few have the privilege to witness. The Wiretailed Manakin, with its characteristic tail, dances among branches while the majestic Harpy Eagle silently soars over the canopies of centennial trees.
Our expeditions are carefully planned to maximize sightings in different habitats. We navigate through streams where the Musician Wren echoes its melodic songs, explore river islands inhabited by colonies of Green-winged Trumpeters, and enter secret trails where the rare Bare-necked Fruitcrow can be observed in its natural environment.
Our team includes local guides with decades of experience in the region, who know every sound of the forest and every bird behavior, working in partnership with specialized bilingual ornithological guides.
The Anna Clara offers comfortable accommodations with air-conditioned suites, private bathrooms and strategically positioned viewing areas to maximize sightings.
We work exclusively with sustainable routes that respect the natural cycles of wildlife and contribute to the conservation of species. Each expedition is a learning opportunity.

The Anna Clara boat represents the most modern in vessels specialized for Amazon ecotourism. Designed specifically for bird observation, it combines hotel comfort with scientific functionality, offering an ideal platform to explore Amazonian rivers without sacrificing well-being and convenience.
The Brazilian Amazon harbors the richest avifauna on the planet, with more than 1,300 catalogued species, of which approximately 500 can be observed during our Rio Negro expeditions. This extraordinary diversity results from the complexity of Amazonian habitats, from terra firme forests to flooded várzeas, each sustaining unique bird communities adapted to specific conditions.
See which species were recorded during the Rio Negro Expedition
During our 7-day expeditions, experienced observers record an average of 300 to 450
different species. This number varies according to season, weather conditions, and
participants’ experience level. Beginners can expect to identify between 200 to 300
species, while very experienced observers occasionally exceed 500 species in a single
expedition.
Diversity is maximized by the variety of visited habitats: terra firme forests, flooded
várzeas, river islands, rocky margins, and natural clearings. Each environment sustains
distinct bird communities, ensuring high diversity even in shorter expeditions.
We limit our groups to a maximum of 12 participants to ensure personalized experience
and greater probability of sightings. Smaller groups allow quieter movement, access to
narrow trails, and individualized attention from guides. This policy also minimizes
environmental impact and respects the carrying capacity of visited ecosystems.
Absolutely. Our expeditions are designed to serve observers of all levels, from beginners
to experts. Experienced guides provide continuous guidance on observation techniques,
equipment use, and species identification. Reference materials are available aboard,
including field guides in Portuguese and English.
Beginners frequently surprise themselves with their ability to identify species after a few
days of specialized guidance. The abundance and diversity of Amazonian avifauna
provide opportunities for accelerated learning in natural environment.
Previous experience is not necessary, although genuine interest in birds and nature is
fundamental to fully enjoy the experience. We provide basic guidance on binocular use,
observation techniques, and appropriate behavior in natural environments.
Participants without previous experience frequently discover a new passion during our
expeditions. The richness of Amazonian avifauna and our guides’ expertise create an
ideal environment to awaken lasting interest in ornithology.
The Amazon offers excellent observation opportunities year-round, but each season
presents specific advantages. The dry season (June to November) facilitates trail access
and offers greater bird concentration at water points. Mornings are cooler and bird
activity is intense.
The rainy season (December to May) transforms the forest into an exuberant
environment where migratory species join residents. Abundant fruits attract large
concentrations of parrots, macaws, and toucans. The reproductive period of many
species offers opportunities to observe courtship behaviors
Temperatures vary between 24°C and 32°C during the day, with high relative humidity
(80-90%). Mornings are cooler and more comfortable for intense activities. Rains are
common, especially between December and May, but rarely prevent activities for
prolonged periods.
The Ana Clara boat offers air-conditioned refuge during adverse conditions, and
activities are adapted as necessary. Tropical rains frequently create unique observation
opportunities, as many species become more active after precipitation
Contrary to what many imagine, the rainy season can be extremely productive for bird
observation. Tropical rains are generally brief and intense, followed by periods of
intense bird activity. Exuberant vegetation attracts greater species diversity, and many
birds exhibit unique reproductive behaviors.
Adequate equipment and schedule flexibility allow taking advantage of the best
conditions regardless of season. Our guides are experts at adapting activities to
maximize opportunities in any weather condition.
Essential Equipment: – Binoculars 8×42 or 10×42 (available for loan if necessary) – Light

higher) – Flashlight with extra batteries – Camera with appropriate lenses
Optional Equipment: – Compact spotting scope – Digital recorder for songs – Waterproof
field notebook – Backup binoculars – Portable chargers for electronic equipment
Although we recommend personal binoculars for greater familiarity, we provide
professional-quality equipment for loan. Zeiss and Swarovski models are available in
different magnifications to meet individual preferences.
Personal binoculars offer the advantage of familiarity with specific adjustments and
characteristics. If planning to acquire binoculars, we recommend 8×42 or 10×42 models
from brands recognized for optical quality.
Clothing in neutral colors (green, brown, khaki, beige) is essential to avoid startling
sensitive birds. Light and breathable fabrics provide comfort in hot and humid climate.
Long pants protect against insects and thorny vegetation during trails.
Waterproof footwear with good grip is fundamental for safety on wet trails and vessels.
Rubber boots are ideal for walks in flooded areas. Waterproof sneakers serve for less
intense activities.
Wide-brimmed hats protect against intense sun and facilitate binocular use. Avoid
clothing with flashy patterns, fabrics that make noise, or accessories that reflect light.
